Terms of Service
Who runs it
OreBoard is operated by Valyra Inc., a company based in Ontario, Canada. Questions about these terms go to [email protected].
What OreBoard is
OreBoard lets people post requests for game mods and related work (“digs”), contribute money toward them (“chipping in”), and lets builders submit solutions (“strikes”). Backers vote on the strikes, and the winning builder receives the pooled contributions minus a 10% platform fee. The full rules are in the Charter, which forms part of these terms.
Accounts
You must be at least 13 to use OreBoard, and at least 18 to receive winnings. You can sign in with an email and password, or with Google. One person, one account: running extra accounts to multiply your vote, or to back or review your own work, will get all of them suspended. You’re responsible for activity on your account, and we strongly encourage two-factor authentication.
Your wallet
You add money to your OreBoard wallet by card through our payment processor, Stripe, in amounts from $10 to $2,000, and chip in from it. OreBoard pays the card fees. Wallet money isn’t a bank deposit, doesn’t earn interest, and can’t be sent to other people. Money you added but haven’t spent can be refunded to the card it came from on request, for about four months after the payment; ask through Help.
Contributions
The smallest contribution is $1. You can withdraw a contribution within 24 hours while its dig is still open; after that it’s committed, and the seed a poster puts on their own dig can’t be withdrawn. If a dig ends without a winner, or is cancelled or taken down, every contribution goes back to its contributor’s wallet in full. Contributions are not purchases, donations, or investments, and give you no ownership of any resulting work.
Featuring
Anyone can pay from their wallet to feature a live dig. The price is shown before you pay; a feature runs for 7 days, or until the dig stops taking contributions if that comes sooner. The fee is OreBoard’s: it isn’t added to the dig’s pool and has no effect on votes or payouts. If a feature ends early because the dig closes, is paused or taken down, or a moderator removes the feature, the unused part is refunded to your wallet.
Winning and payouts
Winnings are held for 7 days before release, during which anyone can report stolen work, malware, or fraud; OreBoard may pause, reverse, or refund a payout because of such a report. Winners must keep their work free and publicly available, as the Charter describes. Released winnings go to your earnings, a balance separate from your wallet. Earnings can be sent to a bank through Stripe, which verifies your identity first (by setting up payouts you also agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement). Bank payouts are available in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and the European Economic Area; anyone can move earnings into their wallet to back other digs. Wallet money can’t be moved into earnings or sent to a bank. You’re responsible for any taxes on what you earn.
Fees
OreBoard charges 10% of a winning payout and the price of any feature you buy. There are no other fees. If fees change, we’ll say so on the site before the change takes effect.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you post, and grant OreBoard a license to host and display it. Builders confirm that their strikes are their own work (or that they have the right to share it) and that they follow the game’s rules for mods.
Moderation and automated checks
Camp keepers (OreBoard’s admins) and volunteer moderators for each game look after the site. Moderators can pause a post for review; only keepers take content down, cancel and refund digs, reverse payouts, or suspend accounts. Some posts are checked automatically, including by an AI model, and may be held for a keeper before they appear; a person makes every takedown and suspension decision. Every moderation action is recorded. If you disagree with a decision, appeal through Help.
Liability
Mods and other work are made by independent builders, not by OreBoard: install them at your own risk. OreBoard is provided as is, without warranties. As far as the law allows, OreBoard isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, and its total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have that the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
Governing law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If we change them in a way that matters, we’ll tell you on the site before the change takes effect, and ask you to accept the new version.
